Erika Mayall
MPT, HBSc(Kin), CAFCI, FCAMPT
Erika graduated with a Master of Physical Therapy degree from the University of British Columbia in 2007. She also holds an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from Western University (2005). Since graduation, she has gone on to complete extensive post-graduate training which has led to a Diploma in Advanced Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT) as well as certification in medical acupuncture through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute (CAFCI). Erika has also trained with Diane Lee and LJ Lee in the Integrated Systems Model (ISM) approach and continues to develop her skill set with regular ongoing education.
Erika began dancing at the age of 3 and trained at a pre-professional level during high school and university. Through years of dancing and eventually teaching, Erika developed a keen interest in the human body and movement analysis. It was during this time that Erika first became familiar with physiotherapy, and realized there was a lack of professionals specifically experienced in treating dancers. This sparked her interest in a career in physiotherapy, and more specifically in a career in dance physiotherapy.
Erika currently treats all orthopedic and sports related injuries, with a focus on dance and performing arts related injuries. She has a keen interest in not only treating injuries, but also injury prevention and maximizing performance potential. Erika has completed specialized training in the field of dance medicine in Australia, Canada and the United States, and has studied with leaders in the field such as Craig Phillips and Lisa Howell.
Erika is an active member of the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS) and Healthy Dancer Canada (HDC). She is a frequent invited guest speaker on the topic of dance medicine and science locally, nationally and internationally and teaches workshops on the same topics throughout BC and Canada.
